Services
Every project starts with an assessment, so you know what is likely to be found before you spend money on research. Prices will be added here soon; in the meantime, write to me for a quote.
Research assessment
I review what you already know, check which records survive for the places and years involved, and send you a short written plan with a quote. The fee is credited against any research you then commission.
Single record
One civil certificate entry or census household, found, transcribed and explained in plain English. Useful when you know exactly who you are looking for.
Starting point
One couple confirmed in the civil registers and in the 1901 and 1911 census returns, with images and transcriptions of every record. A good first step if your family’s Irish story begins with a name and a county.
Three generations, one line
From the ancestor you know back to about the 1860s along one family line, with a full written report and a family tree file you can import into Ancestry, MyHeritage or family tree software.
Earlier generations
Before civil registration began in 1864, research depends on parish registers, land valuations, tithe books and newspapers, and on what survives for a particular parish. This work is done in blocks of hours. I report back after each block, so you decide whether to continue.
Records for an Irish citizenship application
If you are applying for Irish citizenship through a grandparent born in Ireland, I can locate and order the birth record and the supporting entries you need.
What every report includes
- a clear account of what was searched, what was found and what it shows
- images and transcriptions of each record, with full source citations
- a note of anything uncertain, and why
- suggestions for further research
- a family tree file (GEDCOM)
If a search finds nothing, you still receive a report of what was searched and why the trail ends there, so the same ground never needs to be covered twice.
